The December 2026 box office race could become even more crowded, with fresh reports suggesting that Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty's much-awaited comedy Golmaal 5 may arrive on December 4, 2026, replacing Devgn's action film Ranger. If the reports prove accurate, the film would join Prabhas' Fauji and an untitled Akshay Kumar project in what could become one of the biggest theatrical clashes of the year.
However, it is important to note that Rohit Shetty and the makers have not officially announced December 4 as the release date. Earlier industry reports had indicated that Golmaal 5 was targeting an early 2027 release, making the December 2026 release speculation unconfirmed for now.
December Set for a Three-Way Box Office Battle?
Prabhas' period action drama Fauji, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, is already scheduled to release on December 4, 2026. Reports now claim that Golmaal 5 could take over the release slot originally earmarked for Ranger, setting up a direct clash between the comedy franchise and Prabhas' action spectacle. An untitled Akshay Kumar film starring Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna is also expected around the same period, making the festive season highly competitive.
Akshay Kumar Joins the 'Golmaal' Universe
One of the biggest attractions of Golmaal 5 is the addition of Akshay Kumar, who is reportedly playing the primary antagonist in the comedy franchise for the first time. This marks another collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn after films such as Suhaag, Khakee, Insan, Sooryavanshi, and Singham Again.
The film is expected to feature the franchise's familiar ensemble cast, including:
- Ajay Devgn
- Akshay Kumar
- Arshad Warsi
- Shreyas Talpade
- Tusshar Kapoor
- Kunal Kemmu
- Sharman Joshi
- Johnny Lever
- Sanjay Mishra
- Mukesh Tiwari
- Ashwini Kalsekar
Priyamani has also joined the cast in a significant role.
Production Already Underway
Golmaal 5 has already gone on floors, with Rohit Shetty beginning principal photography earlier this year. The fifth instalment is being described as the biggest film in the franchise so far, with a larger scale and new fantasy elements while retaining the trademark slapstick humour that made the previous films successful.
Official Confirmation Still Pending
Although reports suggest that Golmaal 5 could replace Ranger in the December release calendar, there has been no official confirmation from Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn, or the film's producers regarding the release date. Until an announcement is made, the December 4 release should be treated as industry speculation rather than a confirmed schedule.
If the reports are confirmed, audiences could witness one of the year's biggest box office showdowns, with Golmaal 5, Fauji, and another major Bollywood release competing for screens during the lucrative holiday season.
