Intermittent Fasting Doctor Opinion: Bollywood actresses from Alia Bhatt to Sara Ali Khan have lost weight with the help of intermittent fasting. Alia Bhatt took the help of this technique to lose weight up to 10 kg. Often people start adopting popular methods for weight loss without knowing the risks. Gastroenterologist Dr. Pal Manickam told special things about intermittent fasting, which everyone should know. If you too are going to start intermittent fasting, then definitely know these things first.
What happens in the body during intermittent fasting?
Dr. Pal explains that during intermittent fasting, the insulin hormone has to work less. When insulin levels in the body are low, the body begins to burn fat. The 16:8 ratio means eating for 8 hours a day and fasting for 16 hours. Eating begins at 12 noon and continues until 8 pm. After this, the fast begins. This not only gives rest to the digestive system but also prevents fatigue upon waking up in the morning. If you want to lose weight, intermittent fasting is a good method.
Be sure to drink water during intermittent fasting
Drinking water is a must during fasting. If hunger arises quickly after prolonged abstinence, water helps curb cravings. Even if you're not hungry, drinking water can suppress the feeling of hunger. Drinking adequate amounts of water not only flushes out toxins from the body but also reduces calorie intake.
Is intermittent fasting safe for everyone?
Dr. Pal says that intermittent fasting isn't suitable for everyone. Those with acid reflux symptoms should avoid intermittent fasting. Eating late can trigger stomach acid production, leading to heartburn. If you're completely healthy, intermittent fasting is fine.
Eat foods rich in protein and fiber
While intermittent fasting, you should include healthy foods in your diet instead of unhealthy ones. Your body should consume adequate amounts of protein and fiber. This will provide nutrition and prevent nutrient deficiencies. If you want to eat fast food, you can eat small amounts occasionally.
