A deeply disturbing case from Kanpur has shocked the public, where a father allegedly murdered his 11-year-old twin daughters. The accused, Shashi Ranjan Mishra, had reportedly been expressing hopeless thoughts for some time, telling his wife that he no longer wished to live and would take his daughters with him.
Planned Crime Uncovered
During police questioning, the accused admitted that he had planned the crime in advance. He allegedly bought a sharp weapon from the Kakdev area and, on the night of April 18, mixed sedatives into his daughters’ food. After they lost consciousness, he strangled them and later used the weapon to ensure their deaths.
Possible Motives: Depression and Financial Stress
Investigations suggest that the accused was previously employed as a medical representative but had lost his job, leading to financial strain. Police believe this, along with depression and substance abuse, may have contributed to his mental state. He reportedly told authorities that he feared for his daughters’ future, which he cited as a reason behind his actions.
Despite this claim, it has also emerged that he had enrolled his children in a reputed school, indicating conflicting behavior and raising further questions about his motives.
Troubled Family Life
According to his wife, Reshma Mishra, their marriage had been strained. She alleged that her husband was suspicious of her and had installed CCTV cameras inside the house to monitor her activities. On the night of the incident, she was sleeping in a separate room with their younger son, while the daughters were with their father.
CCTV footage reportedly showed that the girls were alive until around 2:30 a.m., when the accused was seen moving around with one of them.
After the Crime
After committing the act, the accused allegedly attempted to take his own life but could not go through with it. Instead, he called the police early in the morning and confessed. When officers arrived, they encountered a horrifying scene.
Police Action
Authorities have registered a case at the Naubasta police station based on the complaint filed by the wife. According to DCP South Deependra Chaudhary, the investigation points to multiple factors, including financial distress, mental health issues, and family conflict.
