A shocking and heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh, where a father, enraged after a dispute with his wife, publicly paraded his 8-month-old son hanging upside down through the streets of their village. The disturbing video has since gone viral, drawing widespread outrage and raising serious questions about child safety, domestic violence, and public apathy.
What Happened?
The incident occurred in Karanpur village under the Azimnagar police station area. The accused, identified as Sanjay alias Sanju, had a heated argument with his wife Suman, following which he threw her out of their house. In a horrifying act of cruelty, he took their infant son, held him upside down by his legs, and marched through the village waving the crying child in the air.
Despite the baby’s loud cries, villagers watched silently, some even recording the incident, but no one intervened.
Domestic Violence and Dowry Abuse Behind the Act
According to Suman’s brother Shiv Charan, the couple got married around two years ago. Since the wedding, Suman had been facing constant harassment and violence over dowry. Just days before this incident, she had been beaten and thrown out of her in-laws' home but had returned after a village-level reconciliation meeting.

On July 19, Sanju again assaulted his wife. When she informed her family over the phone, he became furious and physically threw her out of the house. He then picked up their baby boy and publicly humiliated both mother and child by displaying the infant upside down.
The Child’s Ordeal and Public Apathy
The baby reportedly cried uncontrollably during the entire episode, which lasted for nearly 30 minutes. Villagers remained mere spectators — no one dared to intervene. Eventually, Sanju’s own family members snatched the baby away from him.
Shortly after, Suman’s brother reached the scene and took her and the child to Shadingar Hajira village in the Milak Khanam police station area for safety.
Sanju's Arrest and Bail
When Sanju learned of their whereabouts, he created a scene there as well. He even filed a counter-complaint, accusing his in-laws of beating him. However, during police inquiry, the truth of his inhumane act surfaced through the viral video and eyewitness statements.
Police arrested Sanju on July 22 under Section 151 (breach of peace) and presented him before the SDM court, which granted him bail the same day.
Public Reaction: Anger Over Mild Charges
Residents and Suman’s family are deeply dissatisfied with the legal action taken. They question why someone who endangered a child’s life and publicly abused his wife wasn’t charged under stronger sections like child cruelty, domestic violence, or attempted assault.
The villagers demand strict legal action and question the system’s response to such a disturbing display of violence and parental irresponsibility.
