If you're driving your car on a national highway, here's some useful news for you: Cash payments at toll plazas will be discontinued starting Friday. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced that cash payments will no longer be accepted at toll plazas on national highways. However, payments using UPI will incur higher fees.
According
to media reports, a recent notification published in the ministry's gazette states that if a vehicle enters a toll plaza without a FASTag, the user can pay via UPI, but will have to pay 1.25 times the toll fee.
A senior National Highway Authority official said the move is aimed at reducing long queues at toll plazas and making highway travel easier for commuters. Cash payments will no longer be accepted at toll booths from April 10. Fastag will remain the primary mode of toll collection.
