EPFO 3.0: Faster Withdrawals and Simplified Processes Rolled Out

In a significant reform aimed at improving service delivery, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced EPFO 3.0, a digital upgrade that promises faster claim settlements, simplified procedures, and improved pension systems.

The update was shared in the Lok Sabha by Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, who highlighted that the initiative focuses on digitization and ease of access for millions of subscribers.

Faster Claim Settlements

One of the most notable improvements under EPFO 3.0 is the reduction in claim processing time. Earlier, claim settlements could take up to 20 days. Now, most claims are being processed in less than three days, significantly improving liquidity for employees.

As of February 25, 2026:

  • Over 3.52 crore claims (up to ₹5 lakh) have been settled through auto mode

  • Around 71.37% of advance claims were processed without manual intervention

  • Total disbursements reached approximately ₹51,620 crore

Seamless EPF Transfers

The process of transferring EPF accounts when changing jobs has also been streamlined. With complete KYC, employees no longer require approval from their previous or current employer.

  • Over 70.54 lakh transfer claims initiated automatically

  • More than 21.39 lakh employees submitted transfer claims independently

This automation reduces delays and makes job transitions smoother for workers.

Improved Pension System

The Centralized Pension Payment System (CPPS) is now fully operational across all EPFO offices since January 1, 2025. This system ensures:

  • Timely and error-free pension payments

  • Coverage for over 70 lakh pensioners every month

A Step Towards Digital Governance

EPFO 3.0 represents a major step in the government’s push for digital governance and simplified public services. By integrating multiple services onto a single platform, it reduces paperwork and enhances transparency.

With faster withdrawals, automated processes, and improved pension delivery, EPFO 3.0 is expected to significantly enhance convenience for employees and pensioners across the country.
