The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday carried out raids at multiple locations linked to political consultancy firm Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) in connection with an alleged money laundering case.
According to sources, the searches were conducted at four to five locations, including I-PAC’s office in Salt Lake Sector V, Kolkata, and the residence of its director Prateek Jain. Raids were also carried out at the premises of a businessman in the Posta area of the city.
ED officials from the Delhi zone reportedly arrived in Kolkata late Wednesday night and began search operations early Thursday morning. Officials confirmed that Prateek Jain resides on the third floor of the building where searches are underway.
I-PAC was founded by political strategist Prashant Kishor ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Although Kishor has since entered active politics and stepped away from the organisation, I-PAC has continued its political consultancy work.
Since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, I-PAC has been closely associated with the Trinamool Congress and the West Bengal government. The firm is widely credited with playing a significant role in the party’s landslide victory in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections and its performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
ED officials have not yet issued an official statement detailing the nature of the allegations or the specific case under which the searches are being conducted. Further developments are awaited as the investigation progresses.
