The Duleep Trophy 2025 has begun with a major setback for both Central Zone and East Zone, as their captains — Dhruv Jurel and Abhimanyu Easwaran — were ruled out of the opening match due to injuries.

Dhruv Jurel sidelined with groin strain

Central Zone skipper Dhruv Jurel suffered a groin injury during practice and was advised rest by the selectors. Jurel, who is also in the standby list for the Asia Cup, has been replaced by Rajat Patidar, who will now lead the Central Zone side.

Abhimanyu Easwaran down with fever

On the other hand, East Zone suffered another blow as captain Abhimanyu Easwaran missed the clash after being down with flu. Easwaran was eyeing a strong comeback after missing the England tour, but illness has delayed his return. In his absence, Riyan Parag has been handed captaincy duties.
