Dinesh Karthik Tipped as Future Team India Coach, Says Jitesh Sharma

As preparations intensify for IPL 2026, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has sparked discussion about the future of Team India’s coaching setup, suggesting that former cricketer Dinesh Karthik could eventually take on the role of head coach after Gautam Gambhir.

Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Jitesh expressed strong confidence in Karthik’s coaching potential. When asked whether Karthik could coach the Indian team in the future, Jitesh responded that he is more than capable, adding that even if India does not appoint him, a major international team likely will.

Karthik’s growing reputation in coaching circles is backed by his recent achievements. He played a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic IPL 2025 title win, where his strategic inputs and team-building efforts were widely credited. In addition, he is currently associated with London Spirit in The Hundred as a batting coach and mentor, further strengthening his coaching credentials.

A seasoned cricketer, Karthik represented India in 26 Tests, 94 ODIs, and 60 T20 Internationals. He also boasts an impressive domestic record, including over 9,600 runs in first-class cricket and more than 7,500 runs in T20s.

With his experience, tactical understanding, and recent success in mentoring roles, Dinesh Karthik is increasingly being viewed as a strong contender for a future coaching position at the highest level.
