To address rising mental stress and its impact on physical and emotional well-being, the Delhi government is set to launch “AYUSH Stress Management Outpatient Departments (OPDs)” across the capital. These OPDs aim to provide evidence-based AYUSH treatment services for early identification, timely care, and effective management of stress-related conditions.
Where the OPDs Will Be Available
According to Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, the services will initially start at major AYUSH medical colleges and hospitals, including:
-
Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbia College and Hospital
-
Nehru Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital
-
Chaudhary Brahm Prakash Ayurveda Charak Sansthan
-
Dr. B.R. Sur Medical College and Hospital
-
Existing AYUSH units at IHBAS Hospital
The OPDs will run every Tuesday and Thursday during regular timings.
Services Offered
Patients will benefit from a wide range of AYUSH therapies, including:
-
Herbal and homeopathic medicines
-
Panchkarma treatments
-
Yoga and meditation modules
-
Pranayama and breathing exercises
-
Lifestyle counseling
These interventions are designed to reduce anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, and emotional stress while improving overall quality of life.
Phased Implementation
The initiative will begin as a pilot project with five OPDs, eventually expanding to 11 units (one in each district of Delhi). To ensure effectiveness, the program’s outcomes will be evaluated with the help of institutions such as the National Research Council and ICMR, based on stress index, patient satisfaction, and clinical results.
Why It Matters
The Health Minister emphasized that in today’s fast-paced lifestyle, stress has become a major but often ignored health issue. The AYUSH OPDs will provide a holistic, preventive, and accessible solution, integrating India’s traditional medicine with modern healthcare needs.
This initiative is aligned with the National AYUSH Mission (NAM), National Mental Health Programme (NMHP), Fit India Movement, and WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy. It also supports the Delhi government’s vision of a “Healthy and Empowered Delhi.”
