Chennai Super Kings have suffered a major setback in IPL 2026 as their key pacer Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The left-arm fast bowler, who was an important part of CSK’s bowling attack, will now miss the remainder of the season, creating serious concerns for the team’s pace department.
Khaleel Ahmed sustained a quadriceps injury during CSK’s recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders. He experienced discomfort in his right hip while bowling his fourth over and had to leave the field without completing it. Reports suggest it is a Grade 2 injury, which typically requires around 10 to 12 weeks of recovery, effectively ruling him out of IPL 2026.
Before the injury, Khaleel had featured in all five matches for CSK this season. Although he managed to pick up only two wickets, his role as a frontline pacer was crucial for maintaining balance in the bowling lineup. His absence now leaves a noticeable gap, especially at a time when CSK had started regaining momentum with consecutive wins.
The situation becomes more challenging as Khaleel is not the only pacer missing. Nathan Ellis has also been ruled out due to injury, while Matt Henry has struggled with form. Additionally, Spencer Johnson is yet to join the squad, further weakening the fast-bowling unit.
With limited options left, CSK may now rely on relatively inexperienced names like Gurjapneet Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Mukesh Choudhary, or Ramakrishna Ghosh to step up. The team will need to quickly find the right combination as they prepare for their next clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18 in Hyderabad.
Khaleel’s injury has not only disrupted CSK’s bowling plans but also put additional pressure on their bench strength at a crucial stage of the tournament.
