Creta’s Throne Under Threat: 8 New SUVs Set to Shake the Market Before 2026

The Hyundai Creta has ruled the mid-size SUV segment for years, but the road ahead is about to get tougher. A fresh wave of powerful SUVs – including all-new models, EVs, hybrids, and major facelifts – is gearing up to challenge its dominance. Here are the top eight mid-size SUVs expected to launch in India before 2026.

Tata Sierra
Launching on November 25, 2025, the Tata Sierra is set to become one of Creta’s strongest rivals. It will arrive with three engine options: a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol, and a 1.5L turbo diesel. An electric version will follow in early 2026, likely sharing its powertrain with the Harrier EV.

Maruti e-Vitara
Maruti’s upcoming electric SUV, the e-Vitara, will launch on December 2, 2025. Based on the Heartect-e skateboard platform, it will be available with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs. The smaller pack with a single motor will deliver 144 bhp, while the larger pack with single- or dual-motor AWD setups will produce around 174 bhp and 184 bhp. Expect a driving range of over 500 km on a single charge.

New-Generation Kia Seltos
The next-gen Kia Seltos will make its global debut on December 10, 2025, with an India launch expected in early 2026. It will sport a fresh design, a larger 12.3-inch display, and multiple feature upgrades. A hybrid variant is planned for India, but it will only arrive in 2027. Until then, the 2026 Seltos will retain its existing engine lineup.

Renault Duster
The third-generation Renault Duster will be unveiled in India on January 26, 2026. It will feature a fully revamped design and a more premium interior. While engine details are yet to be confirmed, the new model is expected to offer 1.3-liter petrol and 1.2-liter mild-hybrid petrol powertrains.

Skoda Kushaq & Volkswagen Taigun
To stay competitive, Skoda and Volkswagen will introduce major mid-cycle updates to the Kushaq and Taigun by 2026. Both SUVs are expected to get ADAS features along with subtle cosmetic changes. They will continue to use the existing petrol engines.

Honda Elevate Hybrid
Honda is gearing up to launch the Elevate Hybrid in India around Diwali 2026. This will be Honda’s first hybrid SUV in the segment. It is likely to share the same hybrid setup as the City e:HEV. Currently, the Elevate is offered only with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine.

Nissan Tecton
Nissan’s new mid-size SUV, the Tecton, will essentially be a rebadged version of the latest Renault Duster, featuring Nissan’s distinct styling. It will share the same platform, components, and engines – including the 1.3-liter petrol and 1.2-liter mild-hybrid options.
