The IPL mini auction is scheduled for December 16th in Abu Dhabi. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer will return from injury to lead the team. However, head coach Ricky Ponting is unlikely to be included in the auction. Punjab Kings have limited spending money. Other teams will also enter the auction with their own strategies.
This year's Indian Premier League mini auction is set to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16th. While it's a mini auction, several key players are expected to participate, and some important news related to team management and brand value has also emerged. One major piece of news from the auction is that Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer is set to lead the team despite recovering from his injury.
Captain will bid on behalf of Punjab Kings
BCCI sources have revealed that Iyer's name is on the list of representatives attending the auction. Iyer, who has been out with a spleen injury since last month's ODI series against Australia, is likely to be present in the auction hall on behalf of the Punjab Kings. Under his captaincy, the Punjab Kings reached the final last season. According to auction rules, a maximum of eight members from each team can be inside the hall and six members outside.
Bad news for Punjab Kings
However, a setback for Punjab Kings is that their head coach Ricky Ponting is unlikely to participate in the auction. Ponting is currently in Australia commentating for the Ashes series, the third Test of which begins in Adelaide on December 17. Furthermore, Punjab Kings only have ₹11.5 crore left to spend in the auction, allowing them to purchase a maximum of four players, including two foreigners.
In contrast, Australia assistant coach Daniel Vettori has requested permission from Cricket Australia to travel to Abu Dhabi for the auction midway through the Ashes series, which he has received, just like last time. Other big names will be participating in the auction, including Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) head coach Justin Langer and Global Director of Cricket Tom Moody.
