WhatsApp is finally breaking its signature "green" mold to offer a high-end experience for its power users. The company has officially begun rolling out WhatsApp Plus, a new premium subscription service currently debuting for select iPhone users. This paid tier transforms the messaging app from a standard utility into a highly personalized, stylish platform.
While the service is currently in a limited release phase, it is expected to reach a wider audience in the coming weeks. Here is a look at what the premium price tag gets you.
1. A Total Visual Makeover
The most striking change in WhatsApp Plus is the level of aesthetic control. If you’ve grown tired of the traditional interface, this update is for you:
-
18 New Accent Colors: You can finally ditch the classic green and swap it for nearly 20 different color themes across the app.
-
Custom App Icons: Choose from 14 unique icons, ranging from sleek, minimalist logos to vibrant, decorative designs for your home screen.
-
Visual Flair: Subscribers gain access to animated overlay effects and exclusive premium sticker packs to make chats more dynamic.
2. Elite Chat Management
WhatsApp Plus isn't just a "pretty face"; it offers significant functional upgrades for those who handle a high volume of messages:
-
20 Pinned Chats: While standard users are restricted to pinning just three conversations, Plus members can keep up to 20 important chats at the very top of their list.
-
Bulk Customization: A new "Bulk Control" feature allows users to apply specific themes, alert tones, and ringtones to multiple contacts simultaneously, saving time and effort.
3. The Exclusive Soundscape
To match the new look, WhatsApp has introduced a library of 10 exclusive ringtones reserved only for Plus subscribers. New tones include rhythmic and melodic options like Flutter, Tempo, Ripple, Quest, Drum, and Carnival, allowing you to identify callers without even looking at your screen.
Pricing and Availability
The cost of the subscription varies by region, reflecting WhatsApp's localized pricing strategy:
-
Europe: Approximately €2.49 (approx. ₹225) per month.
-
Pakistan: Priced at PKR 229 (approx. ₹70) per month.
-
Trial Period: In several markets, the company is offering a one-week or one-month free trial to let users test the premium waters.
Important Note: WhatsApp Plus is strictly for personal accounts. The company has confirmed that this subscription will not be available for WhatsApp Business users. Currently, it is an iPhone-exclusive rollout, with Android availability likely to follow as the feature matures.
