Asia Cup 2025: Axar Patel Suffers Head Injury, Participation Against Pakistan in Doubt

India secured a 21-run victory over Oman in their final Group A match of the Asia Cup 2025, finishing the group stage with three wins. India posted 188/20 batting first, while Oman managed 167 runs in reply. The Super 4 stage begins on September 20, with India set to face arch-rivals Pakistan. However, concerns have arisen over the availability of all-rounder Axar Patel.

Axar Patel Injured During Group Match

During Oman’s innings, Axar Patel suffered head and neck injuries while attempting a catch. In the 15th over, batsman Hamid Mirza played a powerful shot, and Axar ran from mid-off to take the catch. He lost his balance mid-air, injuring himself in the process.

Axar was assisted off the field by the team physiotherapist and did not return for the remainder of Oman’s innings. Fielding coach T. Dilip later confirmed that Axar was currently fine, but his participation against Pakistan remains uncertain. With less than 48 hours between matches, recovery time appears limited, and the team may need to adjust strategies if he is unavailable.

Standby Options for India

The BCCI will soon assess Axar Patel’s condition. In case he is ruled out, India has all-rounders Riyan Parag and Washington Sundar on standby as potential replacements for the Super 4 clash against Pakistan.

India fans will be closely watching updates on Axar’s fitness ahead of this high-stakes encounter.
