The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is heading towards victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, with early trends showing it leading on three of the four major posts, including President. Counting of votes began at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to continue for 18–20 rounds before the final results are declared.
The contest this year is primarily between ABVP and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). While ABVP appears to dominate most positions, NSUI is likely to secure the Vice-President’s post.
Tight Security and Lower Turnout
More than 600 Delhi Police personnel have been deployed inside and outside the campus, with drones monitoring the counting process. Despite the high stakes, voter turnout was relatively low at 39.45 percent.
Last Year’s Outcome
In 2023, NSUI pulled off a surprise win after seven years, capturing the President’s post through Raunak Khatri, who defeated ABVP’s Rishabh Chaudhary. This time, however, trends suggest ABVP is set for a comeback.
Key Candidates
-
ABVP: Aryan Mann (President), Govind Tanwar (Vice President), Kunal Chaudhary (Secretary), Deepika Jha (Joint Secretary)
-
NSUI: Jocelyn Nandita Choudhary (President), Rahul Jhansala (Vice President), Kabir (Secretary), Luvkush Bhadana (Joint Secretary)
The counting is underway at the Multipurpose Hall, University Sports Stadium, North Campus, and final results are expected by evening.
