Aadhaar e-KYC is now mandatory for 14.2 kg LPG refills from October 1, know the details

According to sources, consumers who have not completed Aadhaar e-KYC will not be able to book a 14.2 kg domestic LPG refill at the fixed price from October 1. Such consumers will have the option to purchase or refill a 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) or 10 kg composite fibre cylinder.

This new requirement, which will come into effect from Thursday, will now require biometric Aadhaar authentication (BAA) for domestic LPG consumers seeking refills at the Regulated Retail Selling Price with applicable subsidy. Consumers who have completed the authentication will continue to receive domestic LPG refills as before, while those who have not completed the process will not be able to book a 14.2 kg refill at the fixed price.

Commercial LPG prices have increased,
with the implementation of the Aadhaar requirement. LPG prices are also changing from October 1st. In Delhi, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by ₹62.50 to ₹2,810, while a 5 kg FTL cylinder has become costlier by ₹15.50 to ₹779.50. There is no change in the price of a domestic LPG cylinder.

How to complete Aadhaar authentication
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as of September 19, 274.3 million active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9 percent of the total, had completed authentication. Consumers who have already completed this process do not need to take any further action.Authentication can be completed during LPG delivery, at the distributor's showroom, or through the mobile applications of the three public sector oil marketing companies. Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app, BharatGas customers can use HelloBPCL, and HP Gas customers can use HP PAY.

Options for customers without authentication
The ministry had stated that customers who do not want to or cannot complete authentication can continue to receive LPG, but will need to register their preference through the OMC digital channel. Such customers will receive LPG at the applicable market price in 5-kg or 10-kg cylinders, depending on local availability.

The government said the purpose of the authentication process is to ensure that subsidised LPG reaches genuine and eligible households, prevent diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use, and remove duplicate or ineligible connections.

The ministry had said that the subsidy on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder was around ₹210 in September, compared to ₹721 in June. The government is also providing compensation of ₹30,000 crore to OMCs between FY 2025-26 and FY 2026-27.
