If you have a young child at home and you've already made their Aadhaar card, this is important news for parents. According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) regulations, mandatory biometric updates are required after a child turns 5 and again after 15. This process involves updating the child's photo, fingerprint, and iris information.
Update for free till September 30
According to UIDAI, mandatory biometric updates for children aged 5-7 and 15-17 are available free of charge as per applicable regulations. Additionally, the biometric update fee has been waived for children aged 7-15. This fee waiver is valid until September 30, 2026. Therefore, if your child's biometric update is pending, parents should consider completing the process before the deadline to take advantage of the waiver.
Why is an update necessary after 5 and 15 years?
When children are first issued Aadhaar at a young age, the child's photo and other essential details are primarily recorded, rather than biometric information. However, after the child turns 5, essential biometric information such as fingerprints, iris scans, and a new photo are recorded. These are then updated again when the child turns 15.
How can I update my Aadhaar?
To update the necessary biometrics, I'll need to visit an Aadhaar enrollment center. Parents can accompany their child to complete the process.
