A tragic incident involving Delhi Police SWAT commando Kajal Chaudhary (27) has sent shockwaves through the police force and society at large. Trained to confront the country’s most dangerous threats, Kajal could not survive the violence she allegedly faced within her own home. Four months pregnant at the time, she battled for her life for five days before succumbing to her injuries on January 27, along with her unborn child.
Dowry Allegations After Marriage
Kajal was married to Ankur, a clerk in the Ministry of Defence. Her father, Rakesh Chaudhary, has alleged that despite spending nearly ₹20 lakh on the wedding, the demands from her in-laws never stopped. According to him, the family had given gold, cash, and even a Bullet motorcycle as dowry, stretching their finances beyond capacity.
However, Kajal’s father claims the harassment continued. He alleged that Ankur often taunted Kajal, saying that had he married someone else, he would have received a luxury car. Kajal’s mother further alleged that Ankur had extorted ₹5 lakh from her daughter, but his demands only escalated with time.
Chilling Phone Call on January 22
According to Kajal’s family, the events of January 22 were particularly disturbing. Kajal was reportedly speaking to her brother Nikhil on the phone when Ankur allegedly snatched the phone and issued a threat.
“He told my son to record the call, saying it would be useful for the police,” the family alleged. “He said he was killing Kajal and that the police would not be able to touch him.”
Nikhil allegedly heard his sister screaming on the call. When he called back a few minutes later, Ankur reportedly told him that Kajal was dead and asked him to come to the hospital.
Hospitalisation and Death
Kajal was admitted to a hospital in Ghaziabad in a critical condition, suffering from severe head injuries and internal bleeding. Despite treatment, she remained in critical condition and passed away on January 27.
Following her death, police arrested her husband Ankur. The case, initially registered under dowry harassment provisions, has now been escalated to murder under Section 302 of the IPC, according to police officials.
Family Demands Strictest Punishment
The death of a serving SWAT commando has raised serious questions about domestic violence, dowry harassment, and the safety of women — even those in uniform. Kajal’s family has demanded the harshest possible punishment for the accused.
A police investigation is ongoing, and authorities have stated that all evidence, including call records and medical reports, is being examined.
