Currently, there's a heated discussion among government employees regarding the 8th Pay Commission. This discussion regarding the fitment factor has piqued their curiosity. This news may be a source of joy for employees. How much will the basic salary increase under the 8th Pay Commission depend on the fitment factor. An important update has emerged regarding this matter.
The fitment factor is a multiplier applied to the current salary. It determines the new salary increase. A fitment factor of 2.57 was implemented in the 7th Pay Commission, which increased the basic salary from Rs 18,000 to Rs 46,260. Now, employee unions are discussing the appropriateness of this factor in the 8th Pay Commission.
According to experts, inflation is currently rising significantly. The Consumer Price Index has shown that inflation has risen 55% over the past 10 years. Now, employees say that the fitment factor of 2.57 is insufficient to address rising inflation. Therefore, several employee organizations have demanded a 3.0 to 4.0 percent increase.
Demands from various employee organizations have increased. Among them, the Bharatiya Prakash Mazdoor Sangh (BPMS) has demanded a 4.0 fitment factor, which could increase employees' basic salaries by up to ₹72,000. Meanwhile, the NCJCM Staff Site and AIDEF have proposed a 3.833 fitment factor.
According to this, the basic salary could also increase to Rs 69,000. The Maharashtra Old Pension Association has demanded a 3.8 fitment factor, while the FNPO and AITUC have demanded a fitment factor of at least 3.0. If these demands are met, your basic salary could increase significantly.
