Necessary steps are being taken in light of the Eighth Pay Commission, which will be implemented for central government employees. Employees have made important demands regarding the Eighth Pay Commission. Several meetings are also being held regarding this matter.
The Federation of National Postal Organizations has sent a memorandum to the National Council and Joint Consultative Mechanism for the Eighth Pay Commission. Meanwhile, it has demanded that the fitment factor in the Eighth Pay Commission be kept between 3.0 and 3.25.
If the fitment factor is between 3.0 and 3.25, the basic salary can range from ₹18,000 to ₹54,000. Salaries for higher-level employees can increase even further.
If the fitment factor is 3.0, the salary can increase significantly. The Pay Commission's minimum wage is based on the standards of the 15th Workers' Conference of 1957. According to this rule, salaries are determined based on the basic needs of the employee and their family, such as food, clothing, fuel, electricity, education, and entertainment.
Demands of workers' unions
Employee organizations develop a fitment factor based on the cost of these essential items. This includes basic necessities and excludes any luxury items. In its proposal, FNPO estimated costs based on average retail prices in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, and Thiruvananthapuram.
The Eighth Pay Commission is demanding that the family unit be increased from three to five members. This includes including parents. If this happens, the salary could increase to ₹76,360. The minimum wage is demanded at ₹54,000.
In a statement, FNPO said it has demanded a minimum wage of 54,000 and a fitment factor of 3.0. Medical expenses have increased since COVID-19. The organizations say inflation-related costs have also increased. Therefore, it is demanding a 7.5% housing allowance and a 25% skill factor in salaries.
