WhatsApp Web keeps logging out? It's not a glitch, this new rule is the reason. Learn the details here

SIM binding came into effect in India on March 1st. After this, WhatsApp will be required to reauthenticate users every few hours. Consequently, WhatsApp Web may log users out every few hours.

If WhatsApp Web is logging you out every few hours, it's not a glitch or a technical glitch. This is due to the implementation of new regulations by the Indian government. The government has mandated SIM binding starting March 1st . Your WhatsApp account must remain linked to the SIM card in your phone. If you remove the SIM card, the app will stop working. This regulation will also affect WhatsApp Web.

What is SIM binding?

SIM binding means that messaging apps, including WhatsApp and Telegram, can only be accessed on a device with the same SIM card used to register for the platform. If that SIM card is removed from the device, deactivated, or replaced, the app will automatically log the user out.

What will change after its implementation?

Until now, creating a WhatsApp account required a one-time number verification. Users entered their mobile number upon registration, and then entered the OTP received. Later, WhatsApp continued to function even if a user removed the SIM card from their device. However, this is changing. Every few hours, WhatsApp will check to see if the same SIM card is in your device. Removing, replacing, or deactivating the SIM card may cause some WhatsApp functions to stop working.

WhatsApp Web will also be affected

It's worth noting that WhatsApp is rolling out this feature only to Indian users. This decision will affect both the mobile app and WhatsApp Web and desktop. On both platforms, sessions may auto-log out approximately every six hours, requiring users to re-authenticate.
