Everyone begins their morning differently—some start the day with yoga or exercise, while others prefer tea and breakfast. According to Vastu Shastra, the ancient Indian science of architecture and daily living, the way one starts the morning can significantly influence mental energy and the course of the day. Vastu believes that even small mistakes made at the beginning of the day can gradually turn into major obstacles in life.
Here are the things that, according to Vastu Shastra, should be avoided immediately after waking up in the morning.
Do Not Look at These Things After Waking Up
Mirror
Many people habitually look at themselves in the mirror as soon as they wake up. Vastu Shastra advises against this. It is believed that the body is most sensitive to negative energy in the early morning. Looking into the mirror at that time is said to reflect this negativity back to the person, which may result in irritability, laziness, and lack of enthusiasm throughout the day. It is recommended to first wash your face and freshen up before looking in the mirror.
Broken Watches and Damaged Objects
Stopped clocks, broken items, or damaged household objects are considered inauspicious in Vastu Shastra. Seeing such items immediately after waking up is believed to increase mental stress and negatively impact self-confidence. These objects symbolize stagnation and disruption, so they should be repaired, removed, or at least kept out of direct sight in the morning.
Dirty or Cluttered Places
Waking up to clutter or an unclean environment is also discouraged. According to Vastu, disorder and dirt disturb mental balance and reduce positive energy. It is advised to keep the bedroom clean and to make the bed after waking up. This practice is considered beneficial not only from a Vastu perspective but also for overall mental well-being.
What to Do After Waking Up
According to Vastu Shastra, one should look at their palms immediately after waking up, as it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Lord Vishnu reside in the hands. After this, remembering one’s chosen deity is considered auspicious. Spending a few moments in natural light early in the morning is also said to enhance positivity and mental clarity.
