Cinema's "Dream Girl" had many admirers. Besides Jeetendra and Dharmendra, there was another superstar who wanted to marry her. He was deeply in love with her and was even in a relationship with her. But their love never reached the point of marriage, and they separated.

After separating from Hema Malini, this superstar never wanted to work with her again. He even turned down films offered to him. This superstar was Harihar Jethalal Jariwala, known in cinema as Sanjeev Kumar.

Hema Malini was in a relationship with Sanjeev Kumar

According to ETimes, Hanif Zaveri, in a conversation with Vicky Lalwani, revealed that Sanjeev Kumar and Hema Malini were in a relationship when Sita Aur Geeta was being made. Subsequently, Hema's name was linked to Dharmendra, but this was a lie. Regarding their relationship, Hanif said:

Dharmendra and Hema Malini's romance was rumored back when Sanjeev Kumar and Hema Malini were deeply in love. At the time, there was nothing between Dharmendra and Hema. It was just a rumor. This was because they were a hit on-screen pairing.

Why could Sanjeev Kumar and Hema Malini not get married?

Hanif Zaveri further explained in an interview why Sanjeev's marriage to Hema Malini didn't work out. The actor even went to the actress's house with a marriage proposal. He said:

The proposal was actually made to Madras (Hema Malini's hometown). Hema Malini's mother had stipulated that her daughter would continue working after marriage, but he wanted his wife to stay at home. She was at the peak of her career at the time, and I don't think anyone would want to give up their career when they were number one.

Sanjeev Kumar was heartbroken after the breakup

Hanif Zaveri further revealed that Sanjeev was so devastated after his breakup with Hema that he refused to do any films with her. He even rejected a film because it featured Hema.

Then, after much persuasion, Sanjeev worked with Hema in "Trishul." They had no scenes together in the entire film, except for the climax, where all the stars were in one frame. But even there, Sanjeev and Hema didn't speak to each other. Their breakup affected several films, such as "Dhoop Chhaav."
