The June 14 Rush: Check Your Aadhaar for These Mandatory Age-Based Biometric Update Triggers

If you think your Aadhaar card is a "set-it-and-forget-it" document, you might want to look closer at your family’s cards. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has established a critical deadline of June 14, 2026, for free online demographic document updates.
But alongside this timeline sits a far stricter, lesser-known rule that cannot be completed online: Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) based on age milestones. Failing to complete these specific physical updates won't just result in standard error messages—it will completely deactivate the card, immediately halting school admissions, major competitive exam registrations, and direct benefit transfers (DBT) for government schemes.
If you have children or teenagers in your household, here are the non-negotiable updates you must complete at a physical center right now.
The Two Crucial Age Triggers for Mandatory Biometric Updates
A child's facial features and fingerprints change rapidly as they grow. Because of this natural development, UIDAI requires comprehensive biometric refreshes at two precise developmental stages.
| Age Milestone | Current Card Type Impacted | What Needs to be Updated | The Processing Fee |
| At Age 5 (Once child crosses 5) | The Blue "Bal Aadhaar" | Complete capture of all ten fingerprints, iris scans, and a fresh facial photograph. | FREE (If completed before the child turns 7). |
| At Age 15 (Once teenager crosses 15) | Child's Initial Regular Aadhaar | Complete re-scanning of all fingerprints, iris profiles, and an updated adult photograph. | FREE (If completed before the teenager turns 17). |
Why you can't do this from home: While basic address changes can be handled via the online
myaadhaar.uidai.gov.inportal, biometric scans require specialized hardware. You must physically take your child to a registered Aadhaar Seva Kendra or an authorized bank/post office branch.
1. The Expiry of the Blue "Bal Aadhaar"
When a child is under five years old, they are issued a distinct blue-colored card called a Bal Aadhaar. This card does not store any unique biometric data; it is simply mapped directly to the Aadhaar profile of a parent or legal guardian.
The moment the child crosses their 5th birthday, this blue card structurally expires. The system treats the age-5 update almost like a brand-new enrollment request while keeping the same identification number. If missed, the profile is flagged as inactive, which can instantly disrupt school admissions or block benefits under regional scholarship schemes.
2. The Teenager Reset: Locking In Adult Biometrics
The second mandatory window hits right after a teenager turns 15. The biometrics taken when they were five or six years old are no longer accurate enough for secure authentication.
Once this age-15 update is successfully logged into the UIDAI central database, the biometrics are permanently locked in. Barring any future manual labor wear or major medical changes, no further mandatory biometric updates are required for the rest of their adult life.
The Action Plan: How to Complete the Update Without the Long Lines
To ensure your child's identity data transitions smoothly without sitting in an enrollment center all day, follow this targeted step-by-step procedure:
Avoid long walk-in queues. Log into the official UIDAI portal or the mAadhaar app, use the "Book an Appointment" feature, select your nearest executive Aadhaar Seva Kendra, and reserve a precise time slot.
When visiting the center, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the child. You must carry the child's existing Aadhaar card along with an original copy of their Birth Certificate or a valid school ID card as verification proof.
Once the fingerprints and iris patterns are scanned at the desk, collect your physical acknowledgement slip. Use the Update Request Number (URN) printed on it to track the verification progress online until the clean status updates.
