Telecom Tariff Hike Coming Soon? Jio and Airtel May Increase Prices Again

Telecom users in India may soon feel additional pressure on their wallets, as companies like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio continue to gradually revise their plans. Recent changes suggest that a bigger price hike cycle could be around the corner.

Small hikes already happening

Airtel recently increased the price of its popular prepaid plan from ₹859 to ₹899. While the jump may seem minor, it reflects a broader trend of steady tariff increases across the industry.

Similarly, Reliance Jio has made a significant change to its ₹195 data voucher. Earlier, this plan offered a validity of 90 days, but it has now been reduced to just 30 days. This effectively increases the daily cost from around ₹2.16 to about ₹6.50, making the plan considerably more expensive for users.

Why a bigger hike may be coming

Telecom pricing in India typically follows a cycle. Historically, major tariff hikes have occurred roughly every two years. It has now been nearly two years since the last major revision, and recent small changes are often seen as early signals of a larger increase.

Industry experts believe that companies are preparing for a broader price hike across multiple plans, not just selective ones. Rising operational costs, investments in 5G infrastructure, and the need to improve profitability are key reasons behind these expected changes.

What it means for users

If a major tariff revision happens:

  • Recharge plans across categories could become more expensive
  • Data and OTT bundles may offer reduced value for money
  • Users may need to reassess their current plans and usage

Bottom line

While there’s no official announcement yet, the pattern is clear. Gradual price adjustments by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel could be leading up to a larger tariff hike. If you rely heavily on mobile data and prepaid plans, it may be wise to stay prepared for higher costs in the near future.
