Tata Sierra EV: Expected Range, Features, and Its Impact on India’s Electric SUV Segment

The Tata Sierra has returned in style, marking one of the biggest car launches in India’s passenger vehicle market in 2025. Paying homage to the iconic 1990s Sierra, the modern SUV received an overwhelming 70,000 bookings within 24 hours of opening.

Following this success, Tata Motors is now gearing up to launch the Tata Sierra EV. A test model of the all-electric SUV, previously shown as a concept, has been spotted on Indian roads, hinting at an imminent launch.

Key Design and Feature Updates

The Tata Sierra EV is expected to largely retain the SUV’s existing design while incorporating features suited for an electric vehicle:

  • Closed front panel replacing the traditional radiator grille

  • No exhaust pipes for a clean EV look

  • Aero wheel covers to improve efficiency

  • .ev badging to signify its electric powertrain

Inside, the SUV may include a digital IRVM similar to the Tata Harrier.ev and come equipped with the Arcade.ev app suite, offering a modern, connected experience.

Battery and Performance

The Sierra EV is expected to offer two battery options: 65 kWh and 75 kWh, available in 2WD and QWD configurations. While these powertrains may be derived from the Harrier EV, the Sierra EV’s performance could be slightly tuned for comfort and efficiency.

Platform and Technology

The Sierra EV will ride on Tata Motors’ acti.ev platform, the company’s Gen2 scalable EV architecture. Already used in the Punch.ev, Curvv.ev, and Harrier.ev, this platform is designed for future mass-market EVs. Key highlights include:

  • Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)

  • 5G connectivity

  • V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) capabilities

  • 400V technology, enabling a potential range of up to 600 km

The Big Question: Will It Make a Splash?

Given the Sierra EV’s strong design legacy, modern EV platform, and range of up to 600 km, it is expected to make a significant impact in India’s electric SUV segment. With the growing demand for EVs and Tata’s proven popularity in the domestic market, the Sierra EV could once again become a household name.
