Tata Motors Hits Record Sales in June 2026 as EV Demand Soars; Electric Cars Drive Historic Growth

Tata Motors delivered an impressive performance in June 2026, registering record passenger vehicle sales and its highest-ever monthly electric vehicle (EV) sales. The strong demand for electric cars played a major role in the company's growth, highlighting the rising popularity of EVs among Indian buyers.

Passenger Vehicle Sales See Strong Growth

Tata Motors sold a total of 63,083 passenger vehicles in June 2026, including 62,076 units in the domestic market. This represents an impressive 69% year-on-year increase, reflecting strong customer demand across its passenger vehicle portfolio.

The company also recorded a 5% month-on-month rise in domestic sales compared with May 2026. Tata attributed the momentum in part to the positive response received by its recently launched models.

Record-Breaking EV Sales

The standout performer for Tata Motors was its electric vehicle business.

The automaker sold around 14,800 EVs in June 2026, compared with approximately 5,200 units during the same month last year—an increase of more than 180%.

Electric vehicles accounted for nearly 23% of the company's total passenger vehicle sales during the month. Tata Motors also revealed that one out of every three new bookings received in June was for an electric vehicle, underlining the growing acceptance of EVs among Indian consumers.

Export Business Also Gains Momentum

Tata Motors also posted encouraging results in overseas markets. The company exported more than 1,000 passenger vehicles during June 2026, marking a significant improvement over the previous year and strengthening its international presence.

Strong Start to FY2026–27

The company carried its momentum into the first quarter of the financial year.

Between April and June 2026, Tata Motors sold over 1.82 lakh passenger vehicles, representing a 46% increase compared with the corresponding period last year.

During the same quarter, the automaker sold more than 34,000 electric vehicles, reinforcing its leadership position in India's fast-growing EV segment.

According to the company, vehicle registrations during the quarter also grew by around 40%, outperforming the overall growth rate of the domestic automobile industry.

Sierra EV Expected to Boost Momentum Further

Tata Motors recently expanded its EV lineup with the launch of the Sierra EV.

The electric SUV is priced from ₹18.79 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-end variant is priced at ₹25.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It features a modern design, premium cabin, advanced technology, and a long claimed driving range.

Bookings are now open, and customer deliveries are scheduled to begin from July 15.

Bottom Line

Tata Motors' record-breaking June performance highlights the rapid growth of India's electric vehicle market. With EV sales reaching an all-time high and customer interest continuing to rise, the company has strengthened its position in the passenger vehicle segment. The launch of the Sierra EV is expected to further support its growth momentum in the months ahead.
