After completing the shoot for his war drama "Border 2," Bollywood superstar Sunny Deol is gearing up to resume filming for his highly anticipated film "Lahore 1947." Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, the movie is slated to restart shooting on October 10 in real locations across Punjab, with the schedule expected to last around 12 days. This latest phase will focus on newly added sequences, indicating the production is nearing completion.
Originally, the film began shooting in February 2024 and was initially planned for a 2025 release. However, the makers have decided to delay the release to 2026, prioritizing quality over rushing the film’s completion. Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, and Rajkumar Santoshi collectively agreed on the importance of maintaining the film's high standards rather than opting for a quicker release.
"Lahore 1947" is based on Prof. Asghar Wajahat's popular play "Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni" and focuses on the turbulent times of the Partition era. The story centers on a Muslim family migrating from Lucknow to Lahore, encountering complex emotional and social challenges. The star-studded cast includes Sunny Deol as Sikander Mirza, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Karan Deol, and others, adding depth and nuance to the narrative.
The film’s music is composed by A.R. Rahman with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, while acclaimed cinematographer Santosh Sivan is handling the visuals. With the final shooting leg underway and post-production in progress, "Lahore 1947" promises to be a poignant cinematic portrayal of one of the most significant chapters in Indian history, aiming for a theatrical release in 2026.
