Starlink Internet to Launch in India by January 2026; Setup Costs and Speeds Revealed

Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service is all set to launch in India by January 2026 after receiving nearly all government approvals. Only some remaining licenses, including SATCOM gateway and network equipment approvals, are expected to be finalized by the next quarter. To maintain market balance, the government has capped the number of Starlink connections at two million initially.

Starlink aims to bring high-speed internet connectivity to rural and remote areas where traditional fiber or broadband infrastructure is lacking. Internet speeds in India are expected to range from 25 Mbps to 225 Mbps. Although slower than typical urban internet services, this will be transformative for underserved regions.

The initial setup cost for Starlink in India is estimated around ₹30,000 for the hardware kit. Monthly subscription plans are expected to start at ₹3,300 but may vary regionally based on service availability and competition. Starlink's objective is to provide stable, uninterrupted internet access to millions who currently face connectivity challenges.

The upcoming internet revolution powered by Starlink is projected to significantly reduce the digital divide between urban and rural India, boost the Digital India initiative, and enhance educational, social, and economic opportunities for millions. With its phased rollout anticipated between late 2025 and early 2026, the country’s internet landscape could experience a historic transformation starting January 2026.
