Now you'll be able to identify spam and scam calls even without TrueCaller. Because, when you receive a call from a number that isn't saved in your phone, the name of the person under whose name the call is registered will also appear. This service could be implemented nationwide next year.
Now you will be able to see the real name of an unknown caller on your mobile phone itself. The days of people calling with fake names and identities are about to end and it will be difficult for them to harass anyone. Telecom operators have started trials for this. The first trials of this service named Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) are starting from Haryana and Haryana Pradesh Circle. This step is being taken to curb spam and scam calls . It is hoped that this will reduce the incidents caused by fake callers.
Trial in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh
According to a report in ET, this step of making it mandatory to display the name of the caller along with his mobile number on the mobile phone screen is being taken to curb fake and suspicious calls containing spam and scams. This is expected to reduce the incidents of fraud or other types of harassment by calling on fake names. According to the report, companies like Reliance Jio , Vodafone Idea and BSNL are conducting such trials in Haryana circle, while Bharti Airtel has started its testing in Himachal Pradesh.
The name will be visible even if the number is not saved.
Because of this, if the caller has a connection (SIM number) from these companies, their name will definitely be displayed on the user's mobile phone. Meaning, during the trial, if a call is made from one of these companies to any mobile phone across the country, even if the number isn't saved on that phone, the name under which the number is registered will still be displayed.
The Department of Telecommunications has issued instructions
Under the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service, the name registered with the telecom company at the time of purchasing a SIM will be displayed as a default feature on all users' mobile phones during calls. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had asked all telecom operators to conduct a proof-of-concept process or trial before implementing the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service across the country.
Implemented across the country by March-April
However, this service will not be applicable to callers using landline numbers or 2G network. An employee of a telecom company, on the condition of anonymity, said that 'landline numbers will be included after the data is integrated.' According to people associated with telecom companies, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is asking to implement the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service as soon as possible and if the trial goes well, this service can be implemented across the country by March-April next year. However, there are some technical flaws with 2G services, due to which they are not able to join this service.
