Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his two-day visit to Japan, addressed the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum in Tokyo, where he emphasized the transformative potential of combining Japan’s advanced technology with India’s vast talent pool. Calling this partnership a powerhouse, he said it could bring about a new technological revolution and change India’s global image. He urged Japanese business leaders to strengthen their role in the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative, highlighting Japan’s pivotal role in India’s growth story.
The partnership between India and Japan is expanding across crucial sectors including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum computing, and space. Both nations have also signed an agreement under the Joint Credit Mechanism to deepen cooperation on clean energy and build a sustainable green future.
Praising the trust that defines India-Japan ties, PM Modi noted that Japanese companies have invested nearly $13 billion (about ₹11,420 crore) in India over the past two years, underscoring their confidence in India’s market. He also stressed that India is becoming an attractive investment destination, with foreign capital multiplying significantly.
Highlighting India’s strong economic fundamentals, Modi said the nation today enjoys political stability, economic resilience, transparent policies, and predictable governance. With rapid growth making India the world’s fastest-growing major economy, he asserted that it is poised to soon become the third-largest economy globally. Quoting a report by the Japan External Trade Organization, he added that 80 percent of Japanese companies are keen to expand in India, and nearly 75 percent of them are already profitable.
