PM Kisan Yojana: Rules changed before the 22nd installment, money will be stuck without farmer ID

A major rule has come into effect before the 22nd installment of the PM Kisan Yojana. Farmer ID is required for new registrations in 14 states. Without a Farmer ID, you won't be able to avail the benefits of the PM Kisan Yojana. Learn what a Farmer ID is, how to get one, and which states it's applicable in.

A major update on Farmer ID before the 22nd installment, farmers in these states will not receive benefits without ID.

For millions of farmers across the country, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM Kisan Yojana) is not just a government scheme, but a financial support. The annual installments help cover farming expenses. But now, ahead of the 22nd installment, the government has begun strictly enforcing a rule that could prove costly for farmers if ignored: Farmer ID.

The central government has clarified that in states where farmer registration has already begun, a Farmer ID will be mandatory for new registration under the PM Kisan Yojana. If you are a new farmer and want to benefit from this scheme, your application will not be accepted without a Farmer ID.

In which states is Farmer ID required for PM Kisan Yojana?

According to government data, farmer registries are currently active in 14 states, and Farmer IDs have been made mandatory for new registrations. The number of Farmer IDs generated and target for these states is as follows: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Overall, the target was to create over 109.8 million farmer IDs in these states, of which over 76.7 million IDs have been issued so far. In some states, this process is nearly complete, while in states like Bihar, Assam, and Odisha, a significant number of farmers remain unregistered.

What is Kisan ID and why was it created?

Kisan ID is a unique digital identity linked to Aadhaar. It contains the farmer's personal information, land records, crop details, and farming activities.

The government's objective is clear:

  • Weeding out fake beneficiaries
  • To extend the benefits of the scheme to genuine and eligible farmers
  • Using the same identity for different agricultural schemes

Just like Aadhaar increased transparency in government schemes, Kisan ID has also been introduced to prevent fraud in agricultural schemes and make the system more effective.

Why has farmer ID become necessary in the PM Kisan scheme?

According to officials, in many cases, even people who did not own agricultural land were taking advantage of the scheme. Land records and farmer identities are being linked through the Kisan ID, so that PM Kisan Yojana funds reach only genuine farmers. Applications without a Kisan ID are no longer being accepted, especially for new registrations.

How to apply for Kisan ID

The process of getting a Kisan ID may vary slightly from state to state, but generally it involves these steps:

1. Online Registration

Farmers can apply by visiting their state's official agriculture portal. For example, in Uttar Pradesh, farmers can apply by visiting upfr.agristack.gov.in. Self-registration is also possible through apps like Farmer Registry UP, FCRD Service, or eHastakshar.

2. Required Documents

The following documents are required during the application process:

  • Aadhar card
  • Land ownership documents (khatauni etc.)
  • Bank account information
  • recent photos

To ensure accuracy of data, the farmer himself must be present.

3. Verification Process

The relevant department verifies the documents and information. If found correct, the application is processed.

4. Issuance of Farmer ID

After successful verification, a unique Kisan ID is issued to the farmer, through which he can avail the benefits of other agricultural schemes including PM Kisan.

Help will also be available from CSC and camps

If farmers are unable to apply online, they can get their Kisan ID made by visiting the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or by visiting the registration camp of the Agriculture Department organized at the village/block level.

Important advice for farmers

If you're waiting for the 22nd installment of the PM Kisan Yojana or want to join the scheme in the future, don't delay obtaining a Kisan ID. In states where it's mandatory, new registrations will be impossible without a Kisan ID, and you won't be able to avail of the scheme's benefits in the future.

This initiative of the government may seem like an additional process in the beginning, but in the long run it can prove to be transparent and strengthen the system in favor of the farmers.
