Nowadays, most smartphones use fast charging technology, which allows the phone to charge faster, but even a little carelessness can cause the phone to overheat. Excessive temperature rise during charging not only shortens battery life but also poses the risk of explosion or damage to the phone's motherboard. To protect your smartphone and extend its battery life, change these five charging habits immediately:
1. Avoid gaming or video calling while charging.
The phone's processor and battery already generate heat while charging. Heavy gaming, 4K video recording, or video calling over 5G data during this time puts double the pressure on the phone, leading to overheating.
2. Do not charge the phone with a case (cover) on it.
Thick back covers made of plastic, silicone or leather do not allow the heat generated from the phone to escape.
Correct way: Remove the back cover while charging the phone, so that the heat generated inside can easily escape.
3. Leaving your phone charging overnight:
While modern phones have "smart charging" or auto-cut features, leaving your phone plugged in at 100% overnight allows the battery to continuously trickle charge. This negatively impacts battery health in the long run.
4. Don't charge on a bed, pillow, or sofa.
Many people charge their phones while lying in bed, placing them under a mattress or pillow. Cloth or foam surfaces don't dissipate heat, which can cause the phone's temperature to reach dangerous levels.
5. Use only original adapters and cables.
Cheap or uncertified local chargers may not supply the correct voltage and amperage. This can damage both the phone's charging IC and the battery, or even cause a short circuit.
