As per the updates being discussed, the process of obtaining a PAN card will become more structured and document-intensive. Until March 31, applicants can easily apply for a PAN card using only their Aadhaar card. However, this simplified process will no longer be available after April 1, 2026. Applicants will be required to submit additional supporting documents along with Aadhaar, making the procedure comparatively more detailed.
One of the key changes is related to identity verification. From April 1 onwards, the name on the PAN card must exactly match the name on the Aadhaar card. Any discrepancy between the two may lead to rejection or delay in processing. Therefore, applicants are advised to verify and correct their Aadhaar details before initiating the PAN application process.
Another major update is the introduction of a new PAN application form, which will replace the existing one. The current form will no longer be accepted after the new rules come into effect. This change will apply to both fresh applications and requests for corrections or updates in existing PAN cards.
In terms of documentation, applicants will now need to provide additional proof of identity, address, and date of birth. These may include documents such as a birth certificate, voter ID card, passport, or other government-issued identification. Additional valid documents like a driving license, Class 10 mark sheet, or even an affidavit issued by a magistrate may also be accepted as supporting proof.
With these changes, the PAN card application process is expected to become more stringent and verification-focused. Citizens planning to apply are advised to gather all necessary documents in advance and ensure that their personal details are accurate and consistent across records to avoid delays or rejections.
