The incident began with a video posted on WhatsApp status. To impress his friends, Sameer took the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He edited a video using AI. In it, he is seen holding a large amount of cash. His daughter is also seen playing with the notes. Coincidentally, this video came to Shreyas's attention. He thought the AI video was real. Seeing the money in his friend's cupboard, he could not control his greed. Shreyas planned to rob that money. He raided his friend's house with his friends.

Sameer alleged that he left for work in the morning and returned home in the evening to find the main door slightly ajar. Upon entering, he discovered that approximately ₹4.5 lakh worth of jewelry and ₹4 lakh in cash had been stolen. His wife and children were sleeping inside the house at the time of the theft.
