Nvidia launches new AI safety platform: AI agents will now have to stay within their limits

Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly autonomous, but as AI agents gain the ability to perform tasks on their own, a new question is emerging: how can companies make sure these systems do not go beyond their assigned responsibilities?
Nvidia has now introduced a new platform designed specifically to address this problem. The company is developing tools that can help organisations monitor AI agents, detect risky behaviour and prevent them from crossing predefined security boundaries.
Why is AI agent safety becoming important?
Traditional AI systems generally respond to instructions given by users. AI agents, however, can take multiple steps independently, interact with applications and continue working toward a particular goal.
This makes them considerably more useful, but it also creates new risks. An agent with access to company systems could potentially access information, modify files or perform actions beyond what the user intended.
Recent developments in autonomous AI have therefore made security a major focus for technology companies. Visa has also warned that future cyberattacks could increasingly be carried out by autonomous AI systems, requiring equally advanced AI-powered defence mechanisms.
Nvidia wants to create a security layer for AI agents
Nvidia's new Open Agent Safety Platform is designed to help organisations establish boundaries around autonomous AI systems.
The platform aims to combine software-based isolation with hardware-level monitoring. This could allow companies to observe what an AI agent is doing and intervene if its behaviour becomes risky.
The idea is similar to putting an AI agent inside a controlled environment. The agent can perform its assigned tasks, but its access to sensitive systems and information can be restricted.
AI agents are becoming more powerful
The need for such safeguards comes as companies increasingly develop AI agents capable of completing tasks independently.
OpenAI recently introduced its Dots AI agents, which can work across applications and continue pursuing user-defined goals without requiring instructions at every step. The agents can connect with thousands of applications and operate using their own cloud computers.
This means AI is gradually moving from a simple question-and-answer system towards technology that can actually perform work.
The biggest challenge is trust
The more control an AI agent receives, the more important security becomes.
Imagine an AI agent that has access to a company's emails, financial systems, customer database and internal documents. If the system makes a mistake or is manipulated, the consequences could be much larger than those caused by an ordinary chatbot.
Companies therefore need to know not only what an AI agent can do, but also what it is actually doing at every stage.
AI security could become a new industry
As autonomous AI becomes more common, technologies designed to control and monitor these systems could become just as important as the AI models themselves.
Businesses may increasingly require features such as restricted access, continuous monitoring, activity logs, human approval for sensitive actions and automatic shutdown mechanisms.
The technology industry is entering a new phase where making AI smarter is only part of the challenge. Ensuring that increasingly independent AI systems remain secure, predictable and under human control could become one of the biggest technology priorities of the coming years.
