The government has started an auto e-FIR system for immediate action on cyber fraud of more than ₹ 10 lakh. FIR will be registered automatically as soon as you complain on NCRP or 1930. This facility has been started in Delhi right now and will soon be implemented across the country.
Now if someone has cheated you online for more than Rs 10 lakh , then you will not have to go to the police station. The Government of India has launched a new system e-Zero FIR. This system will automatically convert your complaint into FIR. This new facility has been started in Delhi at present, but will soon be started across the country. This new system has been specially made to bring big cyber fraud cases under immediate investigation. Now if you complain on the NCRP portal or 1930 helpline, and the matter is above Rs 10 lakh, then your complaint will automatically be converted into FIR.
This initiative has been started by I4C (Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center) working under the Home Ministry. Home Minister Amit Shah said that this step will enable faster action against cyber criminals than ever before. The government aims to create a cyber-safe India, where digital fraudsters are not spared.
How the new auto FIR system will work
Where to register a complaint?
If you have been subjected to cyber fraud of ₹10 lakh or more, you can register a complaint at two places: - National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and Cyber Helpline number 1930.
How will an automatic FIR be created?
As soon as you register a complaint, the system will automatically prepare a Zero FIR. This FIR will be electronically registered at the e-crime police station, Delhi.
What is a Zero FIR?
A Zero FIR is an FIR that can be registered at any police station, even if the crime is not from that place. Later it is sent to the police station of the concerned area.
What is the next step?
The complainant (who has filed the complaint) has to go to his nearest cyber crime police station within 3 days and get this Zero FIR converted into a regular FIR. This will enable legal action to begin quickly.
Where has it been implemented now?
This system has started as a pilot project in Delhi for now. Later, it will be implemented in other states and union territories of the country. The government aims to make India cyber-safe.
