That awkward time between breakfast, lunch, and dinner often brings small hunger pangs—and with them, cravings for something crunchy and spicy. Many people reach for fried snacks or chips, which may taste good but can quietly add extra calories.
The good news? You don’t have to choose between health and taste. Here are five tasty, crunchy snacks that use very little oil and are perfect for staying fit without sacrificing flavour.
1. Masala Makhana
Light, crunchy, and incredibly satisfying, roasted makhana (fox nuts) make an excellent low-oil snack.
Dry roast makhana on low heat until crisp. Heat ½ teaspoon ghee, add turmeric, red chilli powder, and salt, then toss in the roasted makhana. Mix well and enjoy guilt-free crunch.
2. Peanut Chivda Namkeen
This homemade version beats store-bought namkeen by miles.
Dry roast peanuts and chivda (thin poha). Heat ½ teaspoon ghee or olive oil, add spices and curry leaves, then mix everything together. Crunchy, aromatic, and much lighter than fried snacks.
3. Bhel Puri (Healthy Version)
Bhel puri can be surprisingly healthy when made right.
Dry roast puffed rice and peanuts. Skip market bhujia. Add chopped onion, tomato, lemon juice, and mild spices. Toss well for a spicy, oil-free snack that satisfies instantly.
4. Masala Papad Chaat
A quick snack that needs almost no oil at all.
Roast papad directly on the flame until crisp. Top with finely chopped onion, tomato, cucumber, radish, spices, and lemon juice. Eat immediately for maximum crunch.
5. Roasted Peanuts
Simple, protein-rich, and budget-friendly.
Boil raw peanuts in salted water. Heat salt in a pan, add peanuts, and roast until completely dry and crunchy. Remove skins and store. This snack is filling and nearly oil-free.
