A heartbreaking incident from Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, has left an entire village in shock. Pallavi Binjhadre, a 25-year-old woman, died by suicide after jumping into a well following a dispute in her four-year relationship. Acting on the basis of her suicide note, police arrested the accused boyfriend, Nikesh alias Nikku Gautam, and sent him to jail. In her final letter, Pallavi wrote that she was deeply troubled by him.
The case is from Badpani village under the Tirodi police station. In her suicide note, Pallavi described how Nikku had been harassing her. She wrote that she wished to marry according to her family’s choice and that she had no strength left to endure ongoing humiliation. She also expressed the emotional pain of her broken relationship and the shame it brought to her family, holding Nikku directly responsible for her death.
According to the family, a prospective groom from Raipur visited Pallavi on December 1, and the marriage proposal was nearly finalised. But while the boy’s family was returning, Nikku stopped them and claimed he had been in a relationship with Pallavi for four years and would not let the marriage happen. Hearing this, the boy’s family withdrew the proposal, leaving Pallavi devastated.
Following this, Nikku allegedly threatened Pallavi over the phone, saying he would not allow her to marry anyone else. The broken marriage caused severe mental distress. On the night of December 5, she wrote a suicide note and jumped into the well behind her home.
The next morning, on December 6, as the family searched for her, they found her body in the well. Police retrieved the body, sent it for postmortem, and later handed it over to the family. A case was registered, and an investigation began.
Villagers revealed that Pallavi and Nikku belonged to different castes, and Nikku’s family had never approved of their relationship. The strain reportedly pushed Nikku to consume pesticide earlier, though he survived. After that episode, the two had stopped communicating, but he later resumed pressuring her for marriage.
According to Tirodi police station in-charge Kaushal Kumar Surya, Pallavi clearly named Nikku in her suicide note. Based on this evidence, he was arrested under Section 108 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and produced before the court on December 8, after which he was sent to jail.
