The government has bowed down to the Gen-Z protesters who took to the streets against the social media ban and corruption in the system. First Nepal's Home Minister, Agriculture Minister and Health Minister resigned and now Nepal's PM KP Sharma Oli has resigned.
An all-party meeting was called by KP Sharma Oli at 6 pm today. In the letter issued by Oli, it was written, 'I am talking to the concerned parties to assess the situation and reach a meaningful conclusion. For this, I have also called an all-party meeting at 6 pm today. I humbly request all brothers and sisters to maintain patience in this difficult situation.' But even before the meeting, Oli announced his resignation.
The demonstration began on Monday
The protests that began on Monday against the Nepal government's decision to ban social media continued on Tuesday as well. On Tuesday, the scale of the protests became widespread and the youth started demanding KP Oli's resignation on the grounds of corruption, economic inequality and government mismanagement.
By afternoon, hundreds of protesters entered the Prime Minister's Office, shouting anti-government slogans. Oli resigned soon after. Hours earlier, protesters set fire to his private residence in Balakot, demanding accountability for the deaths.
Let us tell you that 2019 people have died in the violent protests in Nepal, while more than 200 people are injured. In view of the protests, the government withdrew the ban on social media sites last night, but the protesters are still adamant.
