What is changing from October 1?
Under this new government rule, domestic LPG consumers who have not yet completed their Biometric Aadhaar Authentication could face a significant setback starting October 1, 2026. However, there is some relief: approximately 89.9 percent of the country's active LPG consumers—roughly 27.43 crore people—had already completed this process by September 19.
If you have not yet completed this process, it does not mean your gas supply will stop. Customers who have not undergone BAA will continue to receive LPG cylinders; however, the major change is that they will have to purchase cylinders at the prevailing market price without any subsidy. The government has implemented this strict rule to ensure that subsidy benefits reach only eligible and needy families and to completely curb the illegal use of domestic cylinders for commercial or industrial purposes.
Easy ways to complete biometric authentication
If you have not yet completed your biometric authentication, there is no need to panic. You can easily complete this process using the methods listed below:
At the time of delivery: You can complete this process through the delivery person whenever the gas cylinder is delivered to your home.
By visiting the distributor: You can also complete your biometric authentication by visiting your LPG gas distributor's showroom directly.
Via mobile apps: This task can also be done from the comfort of your home using the official mobile apps of oil marketing companies. For instance, Indane customers can easily complete authentication via the ‘Indian Oil ONE’ app, Bharatgas customers via ‘HelloBPCL’, and HP Gas customers via the ‘HP PAY’ app.
Customers who do not wish to undergo authentication can register their preference through their oil marketing company's digital channels. Such customers will still receive cylinders, but they will be charged the full market price.
How much subsidy is provided on LPG?
The government has consistently provided financial assistance to keep domestic LPG affordable for the general public. As of September 2026, the estimated subsidy or financial assistance provided on a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is approximately ₹210. The government has also announced that ₹30,000 crore is being paid as compensation during the financial years 2026 and 2027 to offset the losses incurred by domestic gas companies. Therefore, to avoid any financial loss, ensure you complete your biometric authentication before October 1st.
