Commercial LPG cylinder prices have been increased in major cities, effective June 1. Oil marketing companies have increased the rates of 19 kg commercial cylinders, while domestic cooking gas prices have remained unchanged. This information was provided in an ANI report, citing revised price notifications and sources.
In Delhi, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 42 to Rs 3,113.50. In Kolkata, the rate has risen by Rs 53.50 to Rs 3,255.50.
Oil marketing companies have also increased the price of 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders by ₹ 11. Following this change, the retail price of a 5 kg FTL cylinder in Delhi is now ₹ 821.50.
The revised rates came into effect on June 1. According to the report, there has been no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders used in homes. The price of a standard 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder will remain the same in all cities.
The new change comes days after the government said it was working to strengthen fuel security and maintain adequate reserves amid concerns about volatility in the global energy market.
Speaking at an inter-ministerial briefing on Friday, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said the government has asked oil marketing companies to maintain at least 30 days of LPG reserves.
Sharma said, "Regarding strategic reserves, we are also working on strategic reserves. And we have asked oil marketing companies to ensure they have at least 30 days of LPG reserves, and they are working on that. And similarly, we are working on crude oil as well."
He also said that there is no shortage of fuel supply at present and informed about the steps being taken to avoid disruption in supply.
State-owned oil marketing companies like Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation revise commercial LPG cylinder prices every month based on international fuel benchmarks, freight costs and foreign exchange movements. This new hike comes after several revisions in commercial LPG rates in recent months amid fluctuations in global energy prices. However, domestic LPG prices have remained largely stable after several revisions over the past two years.
Commercial LPG cylinders are primarily used by hotels, restaurants, roadside eateries, and other businesses. Free trade LPG cylinders are typically used in segments that do not fall under the subsidized domestic LPG category.
