Jio vs Airtel in Delhi: Which Operator Leads in Download and Upload Speeds?

Reliance Jio and Airtel dominate India’s telecom sector, but which one performs better in the national capital? The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recently conducted a detailed network assessment across Delhi to evaluate how major telecom operators are performing. The review included four companies: Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and MTNL.

Jio’s Download Speed Performance
According to data reported by TelecomTalk, Reliance Jio recorded the highest average download speed at 249.02 Mbps. Airtel followed closely with an average of 234 Mbps. Vodafone Idea delivered 23.82 Mbps, while MTNL lagged far behind at 5.04 Mbps. In terms of download performance, Jio clearly outshined all other operators.

Airtel’s Upload Speed Performance
When it comes to upload speeds, Airtel took the lead:
• Airtel averaged 31.83 Mbps
• Jio delivered 25.98 Mbps
• Vodafone Idea averaged 11.38 Mbps
• MTNL offered just 1.68 Mbps

Airtel dominated the upload speed category, with Jio trailing behind.

Voice Calling Quality
In voice calling performance, both Jio and Airtel showed nearly identical call setup success rates:
• Airtel: 99.50 percent
• Jio: 99.30 percent
• Vodafone Idea: 98.59 percent
• MTNL: 86.53 percent

These results were measured in auto-selection mode (5G/4G/3G/2G).

Overall Summary
The pattern remains consistent across TRAI’s periodic evaluations: Jio and Airtel usually top most metrics in major regions. In Delhi:
• Jio is ahead in download speeds
• Airtel leads in upload speeds
• Both perform almost equally well in voice calling

Even though BSNL currently operates MTNL’s mobile network backend, the assessment continues to list it under MTNL. BSNL has rolled out 4G in Delhi and plans to introduce 5G soon.
