Is your period near? Stop these 7 things today, or your problems could worsen

Before and during your period, any girl should take special care of her health. Making changes to your diet and lifestyle is also essential during this time. If your period is nearing, stop doing these things today.

While periods are a normal biological process that occurs every month in a woman’s body, did you know that many hormonal changes occur during or before this time, which can cause changes in many aspects of a woman’s life, including mood, weight, eating habits, digestion, and sleep patterns? During this time, your hormones may be sensitive and inflammation may be elevated. Caffeine, excess sugar, salt, alcohol, junk food, or skipping meals can increase cortisol levels, leading to cramps, bloating, mood swings, and blood sugar crashes. Women with PCOD may face this especially difficult time. Therefore, you should make some specific changes to your diet and lifestyle before your period. Let’s learn from an expert about what foods to avoid before your period. This information is provided by dietitian Manpreet Kalra , who holds a Master’s in Nutrition from Delhi University. She is a hormone and gut health coach and founder and director of Reboot Gut Health Care Pvt Ltd, Delhi.

Experts say that if your period is nearing, you should avoid caffeine, junk food, alcohol, and excess sugar. Instead of skipping meals, eat balanced meals during this time. This helps balance blood sugar and maintains estrogen-progesterone balance.
Women often crave chocolate during this time, but avoid eating too much chocolate before your period. Chocolate contains sugar and caffeine, which can exacerbate mood swings. You can try eating dates or figs instead.
Avoid drinking too much coffee or tea to ease the pain. Caffeine increases cortisol, which can worsen cramps. Instead, drink ginger tea or chamomile tea to ease period cramps.
To manage cravings during this time, women often overeat on fried or junk foods, but these contain unhealthy fats that can imbalance hormones. Instead, eat home-cooked meals.
Salty food craving reasons

During PMS, women often crave salty foods. Eating too many chips or snacks can increase bloating and water retention. Instead, eat roasted lotus seeds or chickpeas.
Avoid alcohol during this time. It causes estrogen and progesterone hormone imbalances and can affect your menstrual flow and cycle. If your period is near, start drinking lemon water. This will be beneficial.
Avoid skipping meals before your period starts, as this can affect your blood sugar levels and cause weakness.
