Team India created history by crushing Afghanistan in the one-off Test match, registering its biggest-ever victory in the longest format. Despite the record-breaking triumph, India could not surpass two long-standing milestones held by the West Indies and Pakistan.
Led by Shubman Gill, India dominated the contest from start to finish. After bundling out Afghanistan for just 152 in the first innings, the hosts enforced the follow-on and wrapped up the visitors' second innings for 112. The match ended inside three days, with India securing a massive victory by an innings and 300 runs.
India's Biggest Test Win Ever
The result is now India's largest innings victory in Test cricket history. The previous record belonged to the famous win against the West Indies in 2018, when India triumphed by an innings and 272 runs.
The emphatic victory underlined India's dominance and highlighted the gulf between the two sides throughout the match.
West Indies and Pakistan Records Survive
While India's achievement was historic, it was not enough to break the record for the biggest innings victory on Indian soil or by an Asian team.
The record for the largest Test win in India is still held by the West Indies, who defeated England by an innings and 336 runs in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, among Asian nations, Pakistan continues to own the record for the biggest innings victory in Test cricket. Pakistan defeated New Zealand by an innings and 324 runs in 2002, a mark that remains untouched.
A Landmark Win for Gill's India
Although those two records remain intact, India's crushing victory over Afghanistan will be remembered as one of the most dominant performances in the team's Test history. Winning by an innings and 300 runs not only set a new national record but also showcased the team's strength in every department.
For now, the West Indies and Pakistan can breathe easy, but India's latest achievement has certainly moved them closer to some of the biggest records in Test cricket.
