Smartwatches collect sweat, dust, and grime from daily use, which can make them look dull and dirty. Many people try rinsing them with water, but this can damage the sensors and even cause skin irritation later. To keep your smartwatch looking clean and to maintain its performance, it’s important to clean it the right way.
The cleaning process begins by removing the strap. Since straps and watch bodies require different cleaning methods, detaching the strap makes everything easier and safer. Once the strap is removed, place the watch on a flat surface so it doesn’t slip from your hands. This makes it easier to clean the edges, the back, and especially the sensor area, which is often the dirtiest part due to constant contact with sweat.
Start cleaning by wiping the entire watch with a dry, soft tissue. Make sure the tissue is completely dry, and carefully clean the grooves where the strap attaches. The sensor area requires extra attention—wipe it thoroughly and ensure it’s completely dry before moving on. If there is any moisture left behind, it can seep into the device and cause long-term damage.
For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth or a disinfectant wet tissue. You can also moisten a soft cloth with a little water and mild disinfectant. Clean the display, the sensors, the buttons, and the dial gently. Avoid pouring water directly on the watch or spraying liquids, as this can harm internal components. Once cleaned, let the watch air dry naturally.
Strap cleaning depends on the material. Fabric and silicone straps are the easiest to clean—simply wash them with water, wipe them with a soft cloth, and leave them to dry. Leather straps require more care. First, wipe them with a dry cloth, followed by a slightly damp tissue. Avoid soaking leather, as too much moisture can damage its texture and durability.
