The Story Behind Holika Dahan
Holika Dahan is linked to the story of Prahlad and Holika. Prahlad was a young boy who was a true devotee of Lord Vishnu, but his father, King Hiranyakashipu, wanted everyone to worship him. When Prahlad refused, the king became angry and tried various ways to harm him. Finally, the king sought help from his sister, Holika. Holika was believed to have special protection against fire, so she sat with Prahlad in the burning pyre to kill him. But, as the story goes, Prahlad was saved because of his faith, and Holika was burned to death.

That is why people light the Holika fire, to remember that goodness and truth always triumph over evil.
