The festival of Holi was celebrated with great enthusiasm on March 4, leaving streets filled with vibrant shades of red, blue, yellow and green. However, amid the celebrations, many vehicles were also splashed with stubborn colours.

While plain water may not always be effective, a few simple methods can help restore your car’s shine within minutes.

1. Use Car Shampoo and Lukewarm Water

If the stains are fresh and not deeply embedded, this is the safest and most effective method.

How to clean:

• Fill a bucket with lukewarm water.

• Add a good-quality car wash shampoo and mix well.

• Dip a microfiber cloth into the solution and gently rub the affected area.

• Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

• Wipe dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.

Avoid using harsh detergents, as they may damage the car’s protective coating.

2. Apply White Vinegar and Baking Soda for Dried Stains

For dried or slightly stubborn colour marks, a mild homemade paste can help loosen the pigments.

How to clean:

• Mix 2 teaspoons of white vinegar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a little water to form a paste.

• Apply the paste to the stained area.

• Leave it for 2–3 minutes.

• Gently rub in a circular motion using a soft cloth or sponge.

• Rinse with clean water and wipe dry.

The mild acidity of vinegar helps break down colour particles, while baking soda assists in lifting stains. Do not scrub aggressively, as this may scratch the paint.

3. Use Hand Sanitiser for Stubborn Spots

If gulal or synthetic colours have left deeper marks, hand sanitiser can be useful, especially on glass and plastic surfaces.

How to clean:

• Take a small amount of sanitiser on a soft cloth.

• Dab it gently on the stained area.

• Leave it for a few seconds.

• Wipe off with a damp cloth immediately after the colour fades.

This method works particularly well on windows and plastic trims. However, avoid excessive use on painted surfaces.
