Google announced a landmark $15 billion investment to establish its first AI hub in India, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, between 2026 and 2030. This $15 billion pledge is Google's biggest investment in India to date and its largest AI hub outside the US.
The AI hub project features a gigawatt-scale data center powered by renewable energy, supported by an advanced fiber-optic network and a new international subsea cable gateway, linking India to Google's global infrastructure. This infrastructure will enable the deployment of Google's full AI stack, promoting rapid AI-driven innovation across sectors in India.
Top Indian ministers, including Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, attended the announcement ceremony in New Delhi alongside Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian. The project aligns with the Government of India’s vision for Digital India and Viksit Bharat 2047, enhancing India’s digital economy and creating approximately 188,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The new AI hub will accelerate AI innovation, support India's cloud service demands, benefit startups and small businesses, and strengthen India-US technology cooperation. Additionally, Google will collaborate with Indian partners like AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel to build resilient and sustainable energy and data infrastructure.
This significant investment underscores Google's long-term commitment to India’s digital transformation and positions Visakhapatnam as a global AI and connectivity hub.
